Mary Gryniewicz Gardner

June 12, 1925 — March 2, 2007

Mary (Gryniewicz) Gardner, 81, of Camillus, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007 in Sarasota, Florida surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Born in Poland on Friday, June 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Vincent and Helen Gryniewicz. She lived her life in the Syracuse-Camillus area. Mary was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Vocational High School. She worked at the original Schrafft's Restaurant in downtown Syracuse, the 5th Ward voting polls in Camillus and 15 years in the gourmet cheese department at Wegman's. Mary was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Fairmount, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse and St. Thomas Moore in Sarasota, Florida. A member of Tuscarora Golf Club for more than 50 years, she participated in both the Twilight golf and bowling leagues. Mary was also very active in a number of tournaments and events. She enjoyed traveling and spent her winters in Sarasota (Siesta Key), Florida. She was an avid Bingo player but most of all loved her family. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, John Jack Gardner; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Debbie Gardner of Onondaga Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Bob Greiner of Manlius and Diane and Steve Shirley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Matt and Mike Gardner, Kristen, Bob and Dan Greiner, Celeste Kopek-Greiner, Lauren and Mark Shirley; and seven great-grandchildren. Mary's brother, Chester Gryniewicz, died in 1999. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. Contributions may be made to one's favorite charity in memory of Mary Gardner.
