Mary Ellen “Melly” Mackenzie, 91, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away Tuesday at University Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family. Melly was born on November 13, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA, daughter of the late Louis and Florence Dennis and wife of the late John Rowland Mackenzie. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Carleton College. Melly’s Christian ministry with her husband, John spanned six continents and took place in local churches, homes, and evangelistic meetings from the United States to the Ukraine, from Macedonia to Mozambique, in South America and around the Pacific Rim. Family memories include fun family weekends and vacations, celebrations of occasions large and small, and Mom’s lovely piano playing.
Melly was predeceased by her husband, John in 2006 and by her three brothers.
Surviving are her children, J. David (Andrea) Mackenzie, Ph.D. of Montrose, CO, Katharine "Kate" R. (Paul) Honess of Syracuse, D. Rob (Margaret "Maggie") Mackenzie, M.D. of Trumansburg, James "Jim" B. (Carol) Mackenzie of Clifton Park and Margaret E. Mackenzie, M.D. of Ithaca; grandchildren, Beth (Michael) Clark, Andrew (Casey), Timothy (Jenni) and Christopher (Angie) Honess, Christina "Christy" (David) Cordes and Stephen Mackenzie, Peter (Trisha), Bre (Tim) Sheehan, Joanna (Ray) Eaton and Danielle Mackenzie and Matthew Mackenzie; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Pletts of Cazenovia; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Melly will be laid to rest in Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park.
