Mary Ellen Colucy, 79, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2021, surrounded by her family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she completed undergraduate studies from Le Moyne College and earned her Master’s in Education from SUNY Cortland. Mary Ellen was a primary schoolteacher at St. Patrick’s School and St. John Ukrainian Catholic School for many years. A communicant of The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, she was actively involved with bible study, the Haiti Committee, the Altar Rosary Society and was a Eucharistic minister. She enjoyed book club, sewing and playing Bridge and Mahjong.
Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Michael Colucy; and brother, Stephen Kulba Jr.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Wolcott of Rochester Hills, MI and Barbara “Bonnie” (Michael) Hebert of Wilmington, MA; and grandchildren, Victoria (Alex) Schmidt, Rebecca Wolcott, Samuel Wolcott IV and Danielle and Jenny Hebert.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, June 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 25 at 11 a.m. in The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, Syracuse. Mary Ellen will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
