Mary Ellen (Carter) Poorman, 88, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, December 23, 1922, she was the daughter of John Edward Poorman and Lucy Edna Tucker Carter. A 1939 graduate of St. Anthony of Padua School, she grew up in The Valley and lived in Camillus for 60 years. She retired from the New York State Department of Labor and was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Lynn Paul Poorman on September 11, 1994, and siblings, Francis, John E. Jr., William, George and Richard Carter and Margaret Fynmore. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Jacquelyn and Michael Snyder, Christina “Tina” Poorman; Kathryn and Robert Robb, Melanie Poorman and Mary Lynn Larson; sons, David and Robert; sisters, Ada Costello and Kathryn Pettingill; grandchildren, Timothy and Andrea Robb, Matthew Snyder and Miles Poorman; and many nieces and nephews. The family of Mary Ellen would like to thank the 5th floor staff at Van Duyn for their loving care and compassion. Mary Ellen’s wishes were to have no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, December 3 at Holy Family Church. Mary Ellen will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
