Mary Elizabeth "MaryBeth" Curry, 68, passed away at her home in Camillus on September 30, 2019 following a prolonged illness. She was born in Corning, NY on February 3, 1951, the daughter of Carroll "Muff" and Margaret Snyder. MaryBeth grew up in Prattsburgh, NY where she met the love of her life, her best friend and husband of 48 years, Michael. Neither could say when they first met, but believed it was before MaryBeth entered kindergarten.
MaryBeth will be remembered for her caring heart and her fierce love of family that began with her little sister, Judy in Prattsburgh and her large extended families in Prattsburgh, Corning and beyond. This quality intensified and flourished with the birth of her own children, Christopher Michael and Katherine Elizabeth, and later her grandchildren, Justice Alexander and Chloe Alexis. She will always be remembered for her life values and beliefs, her willingness to make the world a better place for everyone she met, and her refusal to give in to illness until the very end.
As an early childhood education professional, MaryBeth devoted her career to working with and for children. She was the director of several child daycare centers in the Rochester and Syracuse areas. She later worked for the Child Care Council of Onondaga County (now Child Care Solutions) and served on the board of directors of Plymouth Daycare and as co-president of Syracuse Association for the Education of Young Children (SAEYC) as well as belonging to NAEYC, the national organization.
MaryBeth was a graduate of Franklin Academy and Prattsburgh Central School, where she was editor of the "Franklinite" yearbook, a cheerleader, a member of both the National Honor Society, a 3-year member of the Scholastic Varsity and served as class secretary her freshman, sophomore, and junior years.
She was the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen of the Year designation in her senior year. MaryBeth graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester with a degree in sociology and early childhood education.
MaryBeth was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Keith Alexander Schuck, Joseph Patrick Curry; and Willie.
MaryBeth is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Christopher (Heidi) Curry and Katherine Curry; grandchildren, Justice Curry and Chloe Cox, all of Syracuse; sister, Judith Schuck and her companion, Robert Kingsbury of Savona, NY; siblings-in-law Robert, William, John and Roberta Curry; Ringo; several cousins, including Mary Rose Cook of Corning; and many nieces and nephews, including Matthew and Lindsey Schuck of Tampa, FL.
Calling hours will be at Buranich Funeral Home in Camillus on Saturday, October 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a service to follow at 3 p.m.
