Mary Elizabeth Culkin

February 6, 1923 — October 30, 2017

Mary Elizabeth Culkin, 94, of Fairmount, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was employed with the West Genesee Central School District for 30 years, retiring from Stonehedge Elementary. Mary was a communicant of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed bowling, and although not a frequent winner, she also enjoyed trips to various casinos, including Las Vegas with her husband.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 2012; and brother, George Stoyan, in 2005.

Surviving are her sons, Michael of Fairmount and Daniel (Marilyn) of Vero Beach, FL; step grandson, Evan of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Margaret Zimmer of Norristown, PA; niece, Sharon Petty, who was like a daughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Eligia and Irmina for their special, loving care.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, November 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 3 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Mary will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
