Mary Cecilia (Flaherty) Seelig, formerly of Syracuse, was reunited with her husband and sons in the realm of eternity on Friday, March, 9, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. Born in Geneva on Sunday, June 6, 1920, to Thomas and Frances Flaherty, she was the third of twelve children. Mary came to the Syracuse area around 1925 when her father found work with the Solvay Process Co. She attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Solvay High School in 1938. Shortly after, she went to California to find her fortune, met and married a handsome Texan, Charles Seelig, with whom she had three children. After the death of her husband, Mary returned to the East, residing in Ramsey, New Jersey, and eventually moved back to her roots in Syracuse, operating small businesses in both locations. In 1979, she returned once again to the West Coast, this time to Portland, where she became a very successful realtor until her retirement in 2005. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Charles; twin sons, Michael and Martin; and five siblings. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Luanne and Terry Shane; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, William, Elizabeth, Joanne, Michael, Richard and Robert. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, March 24, in Holy Family Church, Fairmount. A celebration of Mary’s life will follow at the Camillus Elks Lodge, 6117 Newport Rd., Camillus.
