Mary Ann “Marie” Marko, 98, of Camillus, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born on Friday, March 7, 1913, she was the daughter of Joseph Sokolowski and Anna Chrostowska Sokolowski. She was raised in Syracuse, and lived in Camillus for more than 60 years. Marie retired from Onondaga County Adoption Bureau in 1974. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and former communicant of Sacred Heart. An avid bridge player and golfer, she was a member of Westvale Country Club for over 40 years and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 1989; sisters, Sylvia Lissa, Stella Zajac, Katherine Nendza, Jean Kinney and Rose Troy; and her brother, Stanley Sokolowski. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Lawrence Messick of Sun City Center, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Mary Ann of Clinton, Conrad and Joyce of Central Square and Paul and Karen of Fairmount; grandchildren, Michael, Alisa, Matthew, William, James, Paul, Lori, and Joel Marko; and eight great-grandchildren Relatives and friends may call Monday, June 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
