Martin “Sonny” Kondziela, 83, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of Westvale and Camillus, he was a graduate of Central High School and attended Syracuse University. He was an Army veteran.
Sonny worked "all his life" in the restaurant business. He began his career working at his parent's restaurant, Martin's Welcome, located on the West End of Syracuse and for 38 years, was owner of Top O' The Hill in Camillus.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Camillus Elks, Polish Legion of American Veterans USA and the American Legion Post #1540.
Sonny enjoyed carpentry, boating, family vacations to Cape Cod and summers on Canandaigua Lake, but above all loved spending time with his family.
Sonny was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Josephine; sisters, Zena Kalsuga and Elizabeth Grudynski; brother, Walter; and nephew, Mark Kalsuga.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Sally Clement; daughters, Sherry (Damon) Ward of Keller, TX and Terrell (Brian) Samoriski of Victor; son, M. Jeffrey (Jen) of Victor; grandchildren, Colin (Christine) Samoriski, Megan and Nathan Samoriski, R. Mason Ward and J. Ethan Ward, Karlie and Caroline Kondziela; and nieces and nephews, Gary, Beth, Marcia, LuAnn, Andrea, and Larry.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, February 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. in the church. Sonny will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Camillus.
