Martin Johnson, 73, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a valued member of the community who left an indelible mark on those around him. Martin's journey began at Corcoran High School, where he graduated in 1969. Later in life, he pursued his passion for technology, earning an IT certificate from OCM BOCES. For over five years, Martin served as an IT advisor for Northland Communications. Prior to that, he lent his skills to Carrier as a line worker and Hertz-Penske Truck Leasing as a mechanic, showcasing his versatility and work ethic throughout his career.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Martin was a man of diverse interests and passions. He was a collector of many different eclectic items. Martin’s love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for camping, hiking, and biking, and he enjoyed playing basketball at the YMCA. Yet, above all else, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family, especially his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-grand-nephews. Martin’s devotion to his loved ones knew no bounds, and his presence enriched their lives in countless ways. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Martin was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Betty; nephew, Michael Johnson; great-nephew, Matthew Rimualdo; and brother-in-law, Poppy Fran.
Surviving are his sisters, Kathleen E. (Thomas) Kordek of Clay, Barbara J. Johnson of Camillus, Sharon A. (John) O’Connell of Syracuse, Janet F. (Mike) Strong of Camillus, and twin sister, Martha E. (John) Reidy of Syracuse; 13 nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-grand-nephews.
To celebrate Martin’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
