Martin F. "Fred” Schlecht, 90, of Camillus, passed away on April 15, 2017. Born and raised in Syracuse, he earned his BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Syracuse University. Fred served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed with Bausch and Lomb in Rochester for two years and General Electric in Syracuse for 40 years where he was fortunate to work with some of the world’s best radar engineers. Fred had an intense interest in sports and the outdoors; he participated extensively in baseball, softball, golf, bowling, swimming and fishing. He was exceedingly fond of his pet dogs and cats, particularly George.
Surviving are his companion of more than 40 years, Virginia Rand; his children, Elizabeth Ristau, Martin F. Schlecht Jr. and Dorothy Griffith; their mother, Anneliese H. Schlecht; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services and burial will be private.
