Marilyn Y. Doner, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, at St. Camillus. Born in Shelburne, Massachusetts, she spent much of her life in the Syracuse area. Marilyn graduated from Norwalk High School and earned her master’s degree from New Britain College of Connecticut, reflecting her passion for education and lifelong learning. She dedicated over 35 years to teaching in the Syracuse City School District, where she shaped countless young lives with her guidance and care, retiring in 1991.
Marilyn was a devoted communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and the Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, finding joy and comfort in her faith. She was also an active member of the American Legion Post 109 and the Howlett Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she fostered friendships and contributed to her community.
A woman of many talents, Marilyn loved crafting, painting, and knitting, often sharing her creations with loved ones. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, bringing warmth, laughter, and love to their lives.
Marilyn’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 2009; parents, Wayne and Margaret York; and sisters, Carolyn and Dorothy.
Surviving are her sons, Paul (Lisa) and Matthew (Kristin), both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Sean, Katelyn, Olivia, and Isabella; brother, Tony (Lonnie) York of Shelburne, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Marilyn’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s & St. Brigid’s Parish, 216 N. Lowell Ave., Syracuse.
Marilyn will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
