May 25, 1934 — November 2, 2023

Syracuse

Marilyn (Schanzle) Copley, 89, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse, she was a graduate of Marcellus High School. Granddaughter of the late Phillip A. Schanzle, who founded Schanzle Bakery in Marcellus in 1904, Marilyn had a deep connection to the family's baking tradition that her father carried into the 1950s. This legacy influenced her love for the craft, and she continued this cherished family tradition throughout her life. Marilyn's life was marked by creativity and talent. She pursued a successful career as a commercial artist in the advertising industry, leaving her artistic imprint on various notable projects. Throughout her professional journey, she dedicated many years of service to Edward's Department Store, Chappell’s, and Dunk & Bright Furniture.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Marilyn found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She reveled in vacationing near any body of water, basking in the tranquility of those moments in the company of her loved ones.

Her creativity, talent, and unparalleled baking skills will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Edward; parents, Arthur and Hazel Schanzle; siblings, Gloria (Roger) Kennedy, George (Pat), and Phillip.

Surviving are her children, William of Clay, Stacey Copley of Syracuse, and Timothy (Deborah) of Stoughton, MA; grandson, Kyle Copley; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor Marilyn’s life will be Saturday, November 18 at 10 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

Marilyn will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Marcellus.
