Maria C. Neves, 97, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation. Born and raised in Portugal, her journey led her to settle in Syracuse in 1960. Maria dedicated herself to her work at Syracuse China and found solace and community as a devoted communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She cherished her time in the garden, tending to her plants and flowers, finding peace in nurturing life. However, her greatest joy always resided with her beloved family, whom she held dear in her heart.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Manuel; son, Michael; granddaughter, Anita Jacob-Gilbert; parents, Jose and Ana Figueiredo; four brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are her children, Nelida (Horacio) Jacob and Arlindo (Diana) Neves, both of Camillus and Dolores (John) Figueiredo of Middleton, MA; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Amelia (Carlos) Monteiro of Portugal; brothers, Joao (Deolinda) Figueiredo and Cesar (Idalina) Figueiredo, both of Camillus; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Maria’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, March 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. In honor of Maria’s life, a funeral Mass will follow at the church.
Maria will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
