Margaret “Peg” (Laurence) Charboneau, 91, of Baldwinsville, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place. Born in Gloversville, she lived in Altamont, Endwell, Syracuse, Yorktown Heights, Passaic, NJ and Wilmington, DE at various times before moving to Camillus in 1989. Peg earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam, master’s degree from Ithaca College and doctorate from Syracuse University, all in music education. A 20-year veteran of education, Peg retired in 1989 after six years as head music teacher with Lakeland Central Schools in Shrub Oak. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she served as Eucharistic minister and member of the Resurrection Choir. Peg was a member of the Music Educators' National Conference and NYS School Music Assn. She was a former member of the NYS Education Department, which formulated the music curriculum and arts assessment standards issued by the department. She presented these standards at meetings of school systems and state associations. She was also a member of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse and the Marcellus Chorale.
Peg was predeceased by her husband, Norman, in 2012.
Surviving are her daughters, Molly Charboneau of Sunnyside, Queens, Amy Charboneau of Skaneateles and Carol Charboneau of Wallingford, CT; sons, Mark of Fayetteville and Jeffrey of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, March 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
