Margaret O’Brien Kanaley died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at home following an extensive illness. Peg was born in Syracuse and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She was a nurse with Crouse Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital for a number of years. She continued on to receive her master's degree and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Hospice of CNY as a nurse practitioner. Peg was predeceased by her brothers, Tim, Bill “Bounce” and Sean and by her parents, William and Kate O’Brien. Surviving are her husband, Tom; daughters, Martha Machin, Kathy Badgley and Mary (Peter) Freund; step-children, Eileen (Mark) Gilbert and Tim Kanaley; grandchildren, Sarah and Tim Machin, Julia Morgans and Winter and Wren Freund; her sisters, Ginny O’Brien and Mary (Charlie) Hooven; brother, Pat (Lorinda) O’Brien; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Per Peg’s request there will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 18 at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave., Syracuse. Peg will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peg’s name to one's favorite charity. Share condolences at www.BuranichFH.com
