Margaret A. (Hassett) McCarthy
November 4, 1939 — August 29, 2016
Margaret A. (Hassett) McCarthy, 76, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation. Born and raised in Auburn, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hassett. She attended Holy Family High School and graduated from Nazareth College with a B.S. degree in nursing.
Margaret began her nursing career in pediatrics, working in both Auburn and Syracuse hospitals. She retired after 40 years from Onondaga County as a community health nursing supervisor.
An animal lover, Margaret, along with her husband, raised many dogs and cats.
Surviving are her husband, Robert, to whom she would have been married 54 years this October; various cousins; and many friends with fond memories.
There will be no services. Burial will be private.
Contributions in Margaret’s name may be made to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
