Marcus John Varik

Marcus John Varik, “The Big Guy”, 58, of Marcellus, passed from this earth on Sunday May 19, 2013, surrounded by his family after bravely battling cancer since last summer. Marcus was an extraordinary man, a talented artisan, having designed stained glass which hang in many homes and businesses in Central New York. He was a collector of memorabilia and a friend to many. He was well known for his sense of humor and personal commentaries on a wide variety of topics. If you knew Marcus, you would appreciate the meaning of "commentaries." Born in Syracuse on Sunday, April 17, 1955, he resided in Marcellus for the past 23 years. Marcus worked at Syracuse Pool and Patio for most of his adult life and was well known to many for the professional services he provided to customers over the years. After his diagnosis with cancer, an amazing group of friends put together a benefit in his honor. His family sends their appreciation to all who sent their love to Marcus, by both attending and contributing to the benefit. His friends and family continued their support until his death. Marcus's family is appreciative of the compassionate care provided by so many staff members at Hospice of CNY and HOACNY. Marcus was predeceased by his father, Rein Varik. Surviving are his wife and best friend, Mary Williams Varik; daughters, Rebecca Renee and Andrea Kathryn of Marcellus; mother, Ilga Varik of Turin; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shelley Varik of Lake Tahoe, California; sister-in-law, Deborah Williams of Syracuse; brother-in-law, James Williams of Newburyport, Massachusetts; several aunts, uncles, cousins, one nephew, two nieces, and friends too numerous to count. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, May 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St, Camillus. A memorial service will immediately follow the calling hours.
