Madeline Sholders, 71, of North Syracuse, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at University Hospital. Born in the Bronx on Tuesday, October 18, 1938, she was the daughter of Nicholas Perrone and Grace Catricala Perrone. After spending her early years in the Bronx, she later resided in Titusville, Florida, San Jose and Riverside, California. She moved to North Syracuse in 2000. Madeline was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx and Riverside Community College in California. Madeline’s lifelong devotion to her family, church, children, and women’s rights was a testament to her strength of character. She was owner and operator of Happy Hours Day Care in Riverside. Madeline was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and former communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Riverside. She was treasurer of the CNY Chapter of the National Organization for Women. Madeline was predeceased by her loving grandmother, Lucia Catricala; parents, Nicholas and Grace Perrone; brothers, Joseph and Frank Perrone; and sister, Norma Fisher. Surviving are her aunt, Lillian Keeler of Camillus, New York, her brother, Nicholas Perrone of Tampa, Florida; “her boys”: Floyd Fisher of North Syracuse, Timothy (Adalyn) Fisher of Stafford, Virginia, Michael (Kristen) Fisher of Poulsbo, Washington and Barry (Nikkie) Wilkes of Fontana, California, who collectively served in the US Military for over 70 years; grandchildren: Stephanie (Allen), Winter, Jayden, Melissa, Skyler, Riley, Kyle and Summer; and great-grandson, Dexter. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009 in St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 S. Main St., North Syracuse with a reception following at the church. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
