M. Margaret Schneider, 93, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2020. Margaret was born in Fabius, New York, near her family’s farm.
Margaret married her loving husband, Jim Schneider, who predeceased her after 50 years of happy marriage. Margaret and Jim first lived in the Valley area and then in Fairmount, where they raised three children. After Jim’s passing, Margaret carried-on with strength and grace, as the family’s beloved matriarch.
Margaret’s life was marked with further sadness following the untimely deaths of her son, Jimmy, her daughter, Mary Pat Schneider, and her son-in-law, Victor Gonzalez. Margaret was also predeceased by her brothers, Daniel Casey, along with his wife Helen, and James Casey.
Margaret nevertheless found joy in her remaining family. She is survived by daughter, Jeanne Bobrek, and eight loving grandchildren. Margaret also counted as special blessings her 11 great-grandchildren, her surviving sister-in-law, Doreen Casey, and her many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was immensely proud of her Irish ancestry, and it was a rare day when she did not wear green or some other token of her cherished heritage. She was also a very sharp-witted card player – to the chagrin of her many competitors over the years – and particularly loved to play Bridge.
Margaret’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to her friends and caretakers at The Hearth at Greenpoint, who made her most recent years so joyful. Services will be private. A memorial Mass will be held in the future.
