Lucille E. Grome, 87, of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Moore, after an extended illness. A native of Ogdensburg, Lucille moved to Syracuse in 1946. She was married to William J. Grome for 55 years, dedicating her life to raising her family. She retired from Onondaga County Social Services in 1991. Throughout her life, Lucille found strength, peace and tranquility through her faith. As a communicant of Holy Family Church, she was a Eucharistic minister and served over forty years as a religious education instructor. Attending Mass on a daily basis following her retirement, Lucille was devoted to the Divine Mercy and Our Lady. Lucille was well-known for sharing pictures of the Divine Mercy, religious medals and offering up prayers which gave comfort to so many. The holidays were not complete without the many pies and desserts that she prepared. Lucille loved to travel and did so extensively throughout her retirement. Her greatest joy and source of pride however, was her family. We are truly thankful for the witness of her life. Lucille was predeceased by her husband, William J. Grome; grandson, Jacob; and sister, Elizabeth Galvin. Surviving are her daughter, Susan M. (Laurence) Moore of Fairmount; sons, William M. (Kathy) of Liverpool, Kevin J. (Rita) of Camillus, Michael E. (Dianne) of Otisco Lake, Steven H. (Kim) and Phillip D. (Kristin), both of Camillus; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Philip Bernhard of Watertown; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, February 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 22 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Lucille will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
