Louis G. Polge

Louis G. Polge, 92, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born in Syracuse on December 6, 1919, he graduated from Vocational High School. He was a lifelong communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and served as an usher for over 50 years. Louie was well-known for his winning smile and thoughtfulness. A Navy veteran of WW II, he proudly served aboard the USS Midway. After discharge, he was a self-employed grocer and later was employed with RCA Service Co. for 20 years as an electronic technician, retiring in 1986. Anything mechanical intrigued Louie and he always enjoyed a challenge. As a result, all of his brothers came to him with their mechanical and electrical problems. He also enjoyed his summer camp, boating, fishing, gardening, woodworking and dancing. Louie was predeceased by his parents, August Sr. and Mary; brothers, August Jr. (Fay), and Julien Polge; and sister, Mary Louise Polge. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Jean Hill; children, Matthew (Cathy), Sheryl (William) Glasper, both of Watertown, and Brian (Beth) of Syracuse; brothers, Albert (Evelyn), Charles (Mary F.), and Alfred (Shelly); and sister-in-law, Marlene Polge, all of Syracuse; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. in the Cathedral where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Louie will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
