Lorraine J. (Smilgin) Spadaro, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday at Iroquois Nursing Home. A communicant of Holy Family Church, she dedicated her life to her family as a devoted stay-at-home mom. Lorraine’s vibrant interests spanned from the intellectual pastime of reading and crossword puzzles to the excitement of board and card games. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and relished in the thrill of slots at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. A true sports enthusiast, Lorraine was a passionate supporter of the West Genesee High School lacrosse team, and she fervently cheered for the NY Yankees. She also supported the West Genesee High School marching band. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Ralph, in November of 2018; daughter, Lee Anne Torrence, in March of 2020; son, Michael, in May of 2020; parents, John and Frances Smilgin; brother, John Smilgin; and sister, Mary Johnson.
Surviving are her son, Ralph Jr. of Syracuse; granddaughters, Cara (Nate) Springett of Syracuse, and Michelle Spadaro of Boston, MA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honor of her generosity and dedication to advancing medical research, Lorraine selflessly donated her body to the SUNY Upstate Anatomical Gift Program, leaving a legacy of knowledge and hope.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, P.O. Box 37920, Boone, IA 50037-0920.
