Ljubomir Jovanovski, 89, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Upstate University Hospital. Born and raised in Prilep, Macedonia, he received his teaching degree from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia, and was a high school teacher of biology and chemistry for over 15 years. Ljubomir, with his family, immigrated to the Syracuse area in 1973 and transitioned to a 27-year career at B.G. Sulzle, Inc. in North Syracuse, where he worked until his well-deserved retirement in 2000.
A devout member of St. George Macedonia Orthodox Church, Ljubomir was known for his support of church activities along with participating in the church choir for many years. His life's work was centered around his beloved Macedonian community. Ljubomir also found joy in gardening and tending to his yard. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Ljubomir was predeceased by his parents, Gore and Todorka Jovanovski.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Sofija; son, Brian (Mirjana) Jovanovski; daughter, Nina (Patrick) Nicholson; grandchildren, Robert (Alexandria) Jovanovski, Aleksandar Jovanovski, Courtney Nicholson, and Thomas (Alicia) Nicholson; great-grandson, Cameron Nicholson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Ljubomir’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. at the church.
