Linda (Coe) Paterniti, 84, of Camillus, passed away Monday after courageously battling a long illness. She was born December 6, 1938, in Oswego, NY, and later graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Linda met her husband, Joe, in college, and they were married in Oswego in 1959. She was a full-time elementary school teacher in the Troy School District before moving to Camillus in 1967. She was then employed by West Genesee Central School District as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant for many years before retiring in 1995.
Linda lived a faith-filled life and was an active communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. There she served as a Eucharistic minister, member of the Parish Council, Confirmation teacher, food pantry volunteer, and member and former officer of the Altar & Rosary Society. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, then donating the items to various groups in need. Linda was an avid reader, loved Bingo, and enjoyed traveling. She made many friends along the way, spending winters in Alabama and Myrtle Beach, and going on many cruises. Most of all, Linda enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was happiest when everyone gathered at her home for dinners and holidays.
Linda was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Joseph “Joe”; parents, S. Arlyn and Muriel Coe; brother, Paul Coe; sister, Isobel Coe Thorn; grandson, Kevin Paterniti; and godson, Kevin Berlin.
Surviving are her sons, Mark (Terry) of Huntersville, NC, David (Annamarie) of Syracuse, and Paul (Bonnie) of Rochester; grandchildren, Shane, Sabrina (William), Kayla (Zach), Kristin (David), Roger, Jessica, and Alexis; many great-grandchildren; and four nieces and a nephew.
Linda’s tough and tenacious personality served her well in the classroom and especially in raising her three boys, but her tough exterior yielded easily to her nurturing, compassionate, and generous heart. When her time in this world was ending, Linda carried herself with dignity, strength, humor, and love for all those around her. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend, an inspirational teacher, and a loving and comforting grandmother.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, August 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow at noon.
Linda will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
