Leonard “Sandy” A. Van Horn Sr., 77, of Fairmount, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. He was employed with the NYS Dept. of Transportation for 34 years before retiring in 1995. Sandy enjoyed Local DIRTcar and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling and making rounds on his scooter to Warren's Garage, Sherwin-Williams and the Fairmount Fire Dept. He was an avid SU, Yankees and Miami Dolphins fan.
Sandy was predeceased by his son, Leonard Jr., in 2014; sister, Florence Wright, in 2015; and great-granddaughter, Amalia Malfatti, in 2016.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Cheryl Peck; daughters, Kim (Dan) Venner of Fairmount, Christa (John) Baumes of Onondaga Hill and Stephanie Van Horn of Fairmount; sons, Brian (Karen) Lovell of Camillus, Scott (Dawn) Van Horn of Camillus and Kevin (Suezette) Van Horn of Warners; sister, Waneta Olmstead of Camillus; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Patrick Olmstead; and close friends, Ray Jackson, Vince Warren, Don Bartlett, Pete Lamanna, Cosmo Buffa and Wilbur Hill.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, November 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be Saturday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Sandy will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
