Lawrence "Butch" J. Barney, 73, of Camillus, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. Larry served in the Air Force from 1961 until 1965. In 2001 he retired from Niagara Mohawk after 28 years. As a teenager, he enjoyed speed skating. Larry loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid golfer during his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff, doctors and nurses at Upstate Cancer Center, caregivers from St. Camillus Homecare and Hospice of CNY for the fine care they provided to Larry. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth Barney; and sister, Margaret Moreland. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, the former Lorraine Nicoletta; children, Kevin (Susannah Ross) Barney of Plain City, OH, Brian (Justine Davidson) Barney of Syracuse, and Kristen (Kennieth Miles) Barney of East Syracuse; their mother, Marilyn Barney of East Syracuse; sister, Betty (Phil) Roulier of Liverpool; grandchildren, Vassar, Ella and Willem Barney, and Braylon Miles; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and faithful canine companion, Jessie. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, December 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 7 p.m. Larry will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Upstate Cancer Center, 750 E.
