Kim John Ahern

April 4, 1937 — March 7, 2006

Kim J. Ahern, 68, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, April 4, 1937, he was the son of John Floyd Ahern and Pauline Girard. Mr. Ahern retired in 1988 after 23 years of service with the Syracuse Fire Department. He was awarded the Medal of Valor Award in 1971 and 1972 and was honored with the Arthur Jenkins Award in 1973. He also worked for the maintenance department at Community-General Hospital for 33 years. Mr. Ahern was predeceased by his son, Dirk T. Ahern; sister, Dolores Christopher and brother, Thomas King. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, the former Barbara D. Blair; sons, Kim F. (Sharon) Ahern of Syracuse and Shannon E. (Teresa) Ahern of Marcellus; daughters, Katrina Tina M. Ahern-Harris of Auburn and Pamela L. (Michael) LaVarnway of Union Springs; special companion, Daisy Mae ; sisters, Germaine (Charles) Olmstead of Florida and Suzanne (Robert) McClary of Lafayette; brother, Anthony (Rose Marie) Ahern of Southwood; granddaughters, Danielle Ahern, Jennifer (Justin) Heath, Holly Harris and Heather Harris; grandsons, Shannon (Leslie) Ahern, Jr., Brian Ahern, Brandon Ahern; Shawn Harris, Michael L. LaVarnway, Jr. and Jonathan LaVarnway; great-grandchildren, Tyrianna, Adrianna and Julianna Harris and Ryan James Heath and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Friends may call Friday, March 10, 2006 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St. Liverpool, NY 13088.
