Kevin E. Whelan, 84, of Camillus, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Born and raised in Syracuse, he was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School, Le Moyne College, and Syracuse University College of Law. Kevin’s love of both reading and the law led to a 52-year career as an attorney, the majority in private practice. He was also a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Kevin was a gentle man who almost always had a book in his hands - voraciously reading law journals, books on history, and teaching himself new languages. His vocabulary was immense and he truly had a remarkable way with words. His eloquence, quick wit, and dry sense of humor were appreciated by his friends and family throughout his life.
Kevin was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, the former Jean Morlock; parents, Maurice and Anne Whelan; sister, Beth Tiby; and brothers, Paul, Raymond, and Brendan Whelan.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathleen (Frank) Whelan of Boston, MA; son, Kevin M. (Tracy) Whelan of Great Falls, VA; grandson, Parker Whelan of Great Falls, VA; brother, Chuck Whelan of East Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.
Kevin spent the last few years at the Centers of St Camillus. His family will always be thankful for the care that the aides, nurses, other staff provided him.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, April 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Charles-St. Ann's Parish, 501 South Orchard Rd. in Syracuse.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Kevin will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the Centers at St. Camillus (www.st-camillus.org/support-st-camillus/online-giving/) .
