Kenneth (Ken) Bradley Goessling, passed away Wednesday, April 27 at Francis House surrounded by his wife of 50 years and three children. Ken’s memory will live forever in the minds and hearts of all of those he touched so deeply with his kind and gentle soul, generous spirit, and thoughtfulness. Ken was born in Bay Shore, Long Island and was raised in North Syracuse. In his youth, he played the piano and the trumpet, was a varsity basketball player for NSHS, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of the Boy Scout Troop 151 in North Syracuse. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College (1970) and a Master’s degree from Geneseo State University (1971). He retired from West Genesee Central Schools in 2004 after 34 years of teaching History and Economics. Ken was active in the community, coaching soccer, lacrosse, and basketball for West Genesee Central Schools; he ran summer basketball programs for the Camillus Parks and Recreation and was a NYSPHSAA soccer referee. Ken wasn’t just a teacher and coach but could be found behind the bar of many golf clubs and restaurants in the Camillus area and then was a founding associate at the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Fairmount. He was a voracious reader of current events, loved listening to and singing showtunes, and telling corny jokes. Ken enjoyed camping at many NYS parks, fishing and boating on the Finger Lakes, and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens every year. He enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world with his beloved wife, spending quality time watching his grandchildren grow and achieve great things, as well as sharing wonderful conversations and meals with his close friends.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, John H. and Lucile B. Goessling; nephews, Dennis Garwood, J.R. Henschke, and Patrick Mulvey; and his grandson, Oliver Pfleiderer.
Ken is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Kristin (Kevin) Bealer, Patrick (Jessica), and Kerry (Steven) Pfleiderer; grandchildren, Alexis, Hunter, and Tucker Bealer; Connor and Ryan Goessling; and Riley Pfleiderer; and sister, Marilyn (Roland W.) Garwood; along with several nieces and nephews.
