Kathaleen “Kay” Wadsworth Coon, who lived most of her 100 years around Syracuse, Utica and Albany, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 in Albany, NY, comforted by loved ones. Born to Margaret and Scott Wadsworth in Syracuse, NY in December 1921, Kay also resided in Wimauma, FL and at Twitchell Lake in the Adirondacks.
Kay’s remarkable life was filled with the people and things she loved: her large and loving extended family and friends, camping, a cup of coffee, a piece of homemade pie, and biscuits and gravy. Despite having lived through difficult times, Kay was generous and optimistic. Described as uncommonly kind, she was a quick friend to everyone she met.
Kay was quick-witted and known for writing poems. She was a lifelong learner, who mastered new technologies even as her eyesight began to fail her. An avid cook and lover of word and card games, Kay retired from McAuliffe Paper in 1982. She often said she had no regrets and that life had given her more time, love and experiences than anyone could hope for.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, Floyd C. Coon, and her son, Larry Coon.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Bonnie – dec.) Coon of Erie, PA; her daughters, Nancy (Doug Arnold – dec.) Coon of Sun City Center, FL, Cheryl Coon Clark of Pattersonville, NY, and Janice (Michael) Sansolo of Potomac, MD; daughter-in-law, Sharon Coon; several grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends of all ages from all stages of her life.
A memorial service in Kay’s honor will be held at a later date. Private burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, NY.
