Karen J. Strouse, 75, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Central Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Ithaca, she was raised in the Town of Ovid where she graduated from Ovid High School in 1966. Karen's interest in science led her to Auburn Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Biology in 1970. Her academic pursuits continued at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology. She also attended SUNY Oswego, further broadening her education.
Karen's professional life was marked by her dedication to the field of microbiology. As a skilled medical technologist, she served various institutions with distinction for over 43 years. Her expertise and commitment to her profession were recognized through her active membership in the American Society for Microbiology.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Karen had a zest for life that was reflected in her many interests and hobbies. She had a great appreciation for New York State wines and often enjoyed exploring the local wineries. A talented jewelry maker, Karen delighted in creating beautiful pieces and wearing them to accessorize her outfits. She also had a love for classic shows and movies.
Karen was also an animal lover with a special affection for cats. Throughout her life, she had several feline friends who were her caring companions and brought her much joy and comfort. Karen's kindness, intelligence, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Ruth Strouse; and stepmother, Gertrude.
Surviving are her step-sister, Muriel (Larry) Jones of North Carolina; and several cousins and close friends.
Karen will be laid to rest in Willowdale Cemetery, Rose Hill.
