June E. Ast, 93, formerly of Marcellus, passed away Friday at Brookdale Summerfield. Born in Joliet, IL, she was raised in Benton Harbor, MI and lived most of her life in the Camillus-Marcellus area. A graduate of Benton Harbor High School, June was an undergraduate of Western Michigan University and earned a master's degree from SU. In 1991, she retired from the Marcellus School District where she was an elementary school librarian for 23 years. June was a member of the Marcellus United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Carl, were longtime members of the Top Hats Dance Club. A volunteer at the Marcellus Free Library for many years, June also enjoyed theatre, music and reading. She was well-known for her English toffee and sweet rolls, especially during the holidays.
June was predeceased by her husband, H. Carl, in 1991; and brothers, Eugene and Robert Eklund.
Surviving are her daughter, Marcia (Robert) Rasmussen of Stow, MA; sons, Stephen (Patsy) of State College, PA and Carl (Nancy) of Rush; sister, Joyce Bliss of North Carolina; grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Lindsay, Kira and Aaron; great-grandsons, Avery and Gavin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, December 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at the Marcellus United Methodist Church.
June will be laid to rest in the spring in Highland Cemetery, Marcellus.
