Judith A. Sweeney, 66, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Crouse Hospital after a long illness. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, June 20, 1943, she was the daughter of Carl and Marian Haffner. A loving wife, mother and “Nanny”, Judy understood that as difficult as life can sometimes be, it’s family that truly matters. She leaves a legacy of devotion, loyalty and love that even the passing of time shall never diminish. Judy was predeceased by her sister, Dolores Cupelo. Surviving are her husband of 46 years, William; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and David Smith and Lisa and Esteban Gonzalez, all of Baldwinsville; brother, Carl Haffner of Syracuse; and four grandchildren, Dylan, Madison, Carter and Mason. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Pastor Mark Luscombe of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Skaneateles officiating. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Casey's Place, c/o Elmcrest Children’s Center, 228 Lafayette Rd., Syracuse, NY 13205 or to Crouse Health Foundation, Palliative Care Unit, 736 Irving Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210.
