Joyce "Joi-Cee" (Ariola) Finnerty, 78, of Camillus, passed away Friday, October 30, 2020 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. She was born in Syracuse on June 13, 1942, the daughter and only child of the late Anthony and Harriet (Herbacynko) Ariola.
Joyce graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School and CCBI. She had a larger than life personality with a big heart and great love of family, friends and fun. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas which she always made magical.
Joyce had a lifetime career in retail, starting with the Lincoln Dept. Stores, where she met the love of her life, Bob. She went on to work for JC Penney until she opened her own women’s fashion boutiques. She operated Uniquely You in Fairmount Fair and La Mia Boutique in DeWitt. Joyce was a true fashion icon and loved her buying trips in NYC and merchandizing upscale fashion in her boutiques.
Besides her love of fashion, Joyce was also an avid sports fan. She enjoyed both tennis and bowling. She became an avid fan of SU Football and Basketball and was a season ticketholder for over 40 years. Joyce also loved the excitement of casino gambling, where she made many friends locally and in Atlantic City.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 59 years, Robert; son, Sean (Karen) Finnerty of Syracuse; daughter, Lisa (Gino) Coggi of Clay; and her adored grandchildren, Kyle and Capri Coggi.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 5 at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Joyce will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
