Joyce Elaine Vahey, 64, of Camillus, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Francis House. Born in Hornell on Monday, November 16, 1942, she was the daughter of Gustave Adolphus Benson and Fanny Sage. She lived in Copenhagen, Remsen, Little Falls, Rome, Massena and Navarino until moving to Camillus in 1993. Joyce graduated from Hornell High School in 1960 and attended Arnot-Ogden School of Nursing. She was employed by Community-General Hospital and was formerly employed with the following hospitals: Bethesda Hospital in Hornell, Watertown, St. Luke's in Utica, Little Falls, Rome and Massena. Joyce was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church and a chairperson of caregivers for the church. Her son-in-law, Jeffrey Wooden, died in 2003. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Rev. Milton Vahey; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl Wooden and Krista and Adam Marcello both of Acton, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Ethan and Joseph Marcello, Alyssa and Zachary Wooden;sister and brother-in-law, Bonita and Henry Hager of East Aurora and brother, Ronald Benson of Hornell.A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007 in Immanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig French officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
