Josephine (Oriente) Gettino, 101, of Solvay, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Vocational High School. Josephine retired in 1991 after 12 years with Solvay Bank, and was previously the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Solvay Heating Co., for over 20 years. A communicant of St. Marianne Cope Parish at St. Cecilia Church, she was also a member and trip coordinator of the Solvay-Geddes Senior Citizens. Josephine enjoyed trips to the casino and playing card games. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and was the caller for Bingo Night at her apartment building. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, in 1978; sisters, Dolores Warner, Mary Carello, and Erma Denton; and brothers, Victor, Joseph, Nicholas, Sam, and Pat Oriente.
Surviving are her daughters, Katherine (Fred) Kapelewski of Orlando, FL, and Nancy (Donald) Vincentini of Baldwinsville; son, Lawrence (Caroline) Gettino of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In accordance with Josephine's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Marianne Cope Parish at St. Cecilia Church, 1001 Woods Rd., Solvay, followed by a private burial at Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
