Joseph W. Dyba, Sr., 85, of Syracuse, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, October 29, 1922, he was the son of Walter Dyba and Stella Lazor Dyba. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Campaign. Joe was employed for 35 years with Carrier Corp. He was a member of the Syracuse Brigadiers, Bishop Ludden Booster Club, Hilltop Club and Red & White Club. He was also a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society. Joe was an avid sports fan of the NY Giants and Syracuse University. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Mary C. Fiumara; daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and James Carnegie of Camillus; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Anita Dyba Jr. of Syracuse; sister, Irene Pazer of Syracuse; granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine Carnegie of Camillus, and Chloe and Noelle Dyba of Syracuse; sisters-in-law, Connie DeStefano, Carm Zingaro, Fran (Frank) Geremski and Josie (Art) Barnello; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 8:45 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 9:30 a.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes.
