Joseph Serbun, 86, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, Joe graduated from Vocational High School in 1947 and was a Marine Corps veteran. He was employed for 40 years with GE, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a former communicant of St. Stephen's Church. Joe was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 348 and American Legion Post 1361. He was also a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and Syracuse Draftsman Association. Joseph was predeceased by his grandson, Thomas McJilton; sister, Olga; and brother, Paul. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Rita Solazzo; sons, Joseph F. (Christine) of Syracuse and Jeffrey P. (Michelle) of Fayetteville, GA; daughters, Sabrina T. (Tom) McJilton of Liverpool and Sondra H. (Michael) Diamond of Salem, NH; grandchildren, Joseph, Stephen (Brittany), and Michael Serbun, Scot and Olivia Serbun, Kaitlyn and Tyler McJilton and Aaron Diamond. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, January 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 29 at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church. Joseph will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
