Joseph J. Sandore, 95, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation. Born in Elmira, he made Syracuse his home in 1962. Joseph was a proud graduate of Southside High School and pursued further education at Elmira College. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy.
For 41 years, Joseph contributed his skills and commitment to NY Telephone Co., retiring in 1988. His expertise and dedication left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the company. Beyond his professional life, Joseph found joy in various interests, particularly golf, woodworking, and lending his hand as a skilled handyman. His craftsmanship and passion for creating beautiful pieces were admired by many. One of Joseph’s cherished pastimes was spending winters in Florida, where he created lasting memories and friendships. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Joseph’s warm personality, dedication to his work, and zest for life touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he graced.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Sandore; brother, Richard; and sisters, Ellen Carroll and Patricia Mower.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, the former Doris Bucher; daughter, Debra McClendon of Camillus; sons, Jeff Sandore of Springdale, AR, and Paul (Natalie) Sandore of Westford, MA; grandchildren, Molly, Lauren, Jilian, William and Joseph; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home.
Joseph will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
