Joseph P. "Dziadz" Zapisek, 77, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at home. He was born in Utica and moved to Syracuse in 1984. A graduate of Utica Free Academy, he was an Army veteran, having served in the Lebanon Conflict. Joe was employed by ABF Freight Systems in Utica for 17 years, retiring in 1994. He was also formerly employed by Boss-Linco Lines in Utica. A member of the Local 182 Teamsters, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his son, Scott (Colleen) Zapisek of Syracuse; brothers, William (Claudia) Zapisek of Woodbine, NJ, John (Rose) Zapisek of Fort Myers, FL and Stephen Zapisek of Utica; grandchildren, Tyler, Collin and Madison Zapisek and Dylan and Olivia Clark; former wife and best friend, Karyn P. Hurley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, March 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W,. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Thursday, March 13 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Joe will be laid to rest in the spring at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Utica.
