Joseph P. Adams, beloved West Genesee basketball and lacrosse coach, lost his long struggle against brain cancer on Monday, January 15, 2018, at his home in Camillus at the age of 46.
Joe graduated from West Genesee High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at SUNY Cortland where he also earned All-American honors in lacrosse. Joe was employed by the Phoenix Central School District where he taught Health at EJD Middle School. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.
Joe was an avid SU football fan and took pride in coaching for West Genesee, but above all loved spending time with his family.
Joseph was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Catherine and James Whelan; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Anna Adams.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, the former Jennifer Casciani; children, Jacob and Sarah; parents, Joseph and Marjorie Adams; sister, Mary (Gary) Rustay; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Judy Casciani; brother-in-law, Chris (Carrie) Casciani; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, January 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 18 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
