Joseph R. Lydon, 73, of Camillus, passed away Sunday at Upstate University Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Bishop Ludden Junior-Senior High School. Joseph was employed by American Steel & Aluminum, LLC, for over 40 years before retiring in 2020. Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of the American Legion Tipperary Hill Post #1361, Konosioni Masonic Lodge #950, and Camillus Elks Lodge #31. An avid golfer, he was also a football fan of the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. Above all, he loved Foster’s Fridays and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn; brother, Michael; and sister, Linda.
Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Judy; daughters, Casey of Minoa and Laura (Daniel Mooney) Lydon of Liverpool; son, Chris of Camillus; grandchildren, Calen and Mason Monahan, and Madison and Ryan Lydon; sister, Shirley (Joseph) Katz of Groveland, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 14 at 1 p.m. in St. Marianne Cope Parish-Our Lady of Peace Church, 203 Halcomb St., Syracuse.
A celebration of Joe’s life will take place following the funeral Mass at Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub, 100 S. Lowel Ave., Syracuse. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Upstate Medical University Neuroscience Program, 505 Irving Ave., Syracuse, New York 13210.
