Joseph Bitzel
August 14, 1923 — February 24, 2019
Joseph Bitzel, 95, of DeWitt, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he attended SU and retired from the US Postal Service after 32 years. Joseph was stationed in France during WWII with the Army as a regional telephone and Morse code operator. He traveled to 48 states playing golf and also loved traveling to Europe, the Swiss Alps, Geneva and Ireland.
Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Catherine, in 2018.
Services will be Friday, March 1 at 11 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. Joseph will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Joseph wished to thank his caregiver, Felipe, for her excellent care and compassion given to himself and his sister, Catherine.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
