John Weber, 65, of Camillus, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at Crouse Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse-Camillus area, he was born on Friday, August 29, 1947. He retired in 2009 after 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service. John was a founding member of the Syracuse Cinephile Society, which presents the national Cinefest each year, a festival of rare silent and early films. He was also a former member of the Syracuse Little Theatre. As a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, he was honored with its 2012 Literary Award for his book, Under the Darkling Sky. John was a collector of classic films and books and enjoyed walking the Erie Canal year-round. He was devoted to his family and friends and to his feline companion, Pepper, who kept him very busy. John was predeceased by his mother, Meta Herbst Weber Kotlarz; father, John T. Weber; and brother-in-law, Bill Winks. Surviving are his sisters, Patricia (Louis) Weber Sones of Brooklyn and Susan Winks of Syracuse; niece, Sherri (Daniel) Bishop of Bloomington, Indiana; nephew, John Winks of Baldwinsville; uncles, Edward (Delores) Weber of Phoenix and Leonard (Esther) Herbst of Liverpool; many loving cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, October 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Nick Alvaro officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, October 31 at 11 a.m. in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
