John W. "Shack" Shackleton

December 29, 1945 — August 16, 2010

John W. “Shack” Shackleton, 64, of Camillus, passed away Monday, August 16 at Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Binghamton. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, December 29, 1945, he was a lifetime resident of the Camillus area. John was a graduate of Baldwinsville High School and an Army veteran. He was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters. John was predeceased by his father, Robert Shackleton; mother, Jennette Shackleton Fauler; and brother, Lloyd Shackleton. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Eileen Tompkins; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Mark Dobie of Warners; son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Jay" and Michelle Shackleton of Camillus; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Martin Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Carol Shackleton, and James and Kym Shackleton, all of Baldwinsville, and Joseph Shackleton of Solvay; granddaughters, Kaylee, Deanna and Rachael Shackleton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Friday, August 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be private. John will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6390 Fly Rd., 2nd Floor, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
