John T. Murphy, 88, formerly of 311 Crenshaw Court, Camillus and a recent resident of Bluefield Manor, Auburn, NY, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Matthew House in Auburn. Born in Kingston, NY, on Monday, April 29, 1918, he was the son of Patrick Murphy and Emma Marchio. He lived in Syracuse and Camillus for 53 years before moving to Auburn. John was a 1935 graduate of Kingston High School and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Fordham University in New York City. He held various accounting and auditing positions in public accounting and many international, national and local business organizations. John retired from Syracuse Tank. Drafted and inducted into the Ninth Infantry Division, he served as a major in the Eighth Air Force in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Camillus and former member of the Knights of Columbus in Kingston. He enjoyed reading, traveling and playing pool. John's wife, the former, Shirley Marie Burns, died July 30, 2001 and son, John T. Murphy, Jr., died in 1974. Surviving are his daughters, Christine M. Murphy and fianc, Dennis Ryan, of Rochester and Margaret E. Peggy and husband, David Dickman, of Auburn; sister, Rosemary Strittar of Madison, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Catherine, Sister Francis Patrick, Mary Ann Burns and Elizabeth Burns and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Camillus, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
