John E. Settineri, 88, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Loretto, just one day shy of his 89th birthday. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, he graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Le Moyne College. He also proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. An active communicant of Holy Family Church, John dedicated many years of volunteering at the Camillus Erie Canal Park, along with previous involvement with the CNY Model Railroad Club and Historical Society, Inc. John was a skilled carpenter with an enthusiasm for building just about anything. Most of all, he was a dedicated father and cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, Dr. John and Gilda; and brother, Robert.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Sheila; sons, Richard (Kim Jakway) of Geddes and John A. (Margaret) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Jonathan and Timothy; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Cassandra; sisters, Nina (James) McElwee of North Carolina and Mary (Donald) Gregory of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate John’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at noon in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
John will be laid to rest with full military honors in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Joseph’s House for Women, 802 Court St., Syracuse, New York 13208.
