John William Schneid, 89, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday at The Cottages at Garden Grove. Born and raised in Syracuse, he attended Syracuse University, University of Detroit, and University of Florida. A U.S. Army veteran, John was President of Schneid Construction for 46 years. He had a hand in the construction of many Syracuse landmarks during that time including projects at both Syracuse University and Colgate University. John was communicant of St. Joseph’s Church of Camillus. He enjoyed volunteering as a lobby ambassador at St. Joseph’s Hospital after retirement. Most of all, he loved spending time at his summer residence on Otisco Lake, especially Sunday afternoons with his grandkids.
John was predeceased by his wife, Mary Susan “Sue”; parents, Hans and Frieda; and sister, Mary Kelly.
Surviving are his sons, Paul (Ann) of Baldwinsville, Mark (Kim) of Cary, NC, Eric (Darra) of Cicero, and David (Katherine) of Fairmount; brothers, Ed (Meque) of Long Island and Dr. Jim (Eleanor) of Maine; sisters, Anne of Fayetteville and Leona (Tony) of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Tom of Boston; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee Street, Camillus.
John will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
