John Ryan DeSocio

John Ryan DeSocio, loving son, passed away September 25, 2020 at the age of 37 in Norfolk, VA.

John was born March 24, 1983 to John A. DeSocio and Deborah Zimmer. He was attending Old Dominion University where he was pursuing a teaching degree. Prior to attending Old Dominion, John Ryan proudly served in the Navy for five years.

John Ryan loved living life outside of the box, so to speak. He had an enormous group of very close friends that celebrated life together from Friendsgiving to festivals. He loved riding his bicycle, making funny button pins, and loved cooking proudly, displaying his masterpieces on Facebook. He started canning peppers to expand his cooking skills and even made his own labels. He had a love of books throughout his life and had a great passion for history. John Ryan was known for his quick wit and kind spirit. He always believed in authenticity from himself and those around him. He was sharing his journey through life with his lovely girlfriend, Hilary and their dog, Charlotte.

John Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Christine Zimmer; grandfather, Frances Lasher; and uncle, Marc DeSocio.

Surviving are his father, John (Patricia Marino) DeSocio; mother, Deborah Zimmer Brazell; his beautiful sister, Skyler Brazell; grandmother, Louise Lasher; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A calling hour will be held Thursday, June 10 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John Ryan’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284. In addition, $5,000 was donated to White Branch Library in his honor.
